Hi! I'm Megan

I'm running to be your 2018-2019 class secretary. In short, I'm a dedicated, passionate individual, who is just the right amount awkward. I believe in us, as a class, and I know that together, we can achieve something amazing.

About me
About me

When I'm not desperately trying to keep my grades alive, I enjoy sleeping, eating cereal, playing with my dog, and going outside (I know, surprising!). Throughout my short 14 years of life, I have experimented with trying piano, flute, swimming, figure skating, and gymnastics, just to name a few. But through all of these different activities, I have my heart set out on dance.

I have been dancing from the ripe age of 3. Although my short legs have never been ideal for dance, that has never deterred me from continuing. When I was 6 years old, I moved away from my childhood house in Massachusetts and moved to the, significantly larger, state of California. Here I started to take dance more seriously and joined Silicon Valley Dance Academy's dance team. After almost 6 years of dancing with SVDA, I decided to audition to become a Lynbrook Valkyrie. Being the only new member of the team, I thought I would forever be that one confused freshman, but that is no longer the case and I love the team like my family.

Outside of dancing, I also enjoy volunteering and being of part of several clubs such as pre med and the American Cancer Society. I am also an active member of Key club. I have recently joined a program called VIP soccer buddies, where we help specials needs children learn how to play soccer. These experiences not only taught me patience, but really taught me how helping others can bring me genuine joy.

Another crucial part of my recent life is my dog, Bean. Bean is a one year old, tri-colored corgi and although I've only had him for a little over a year, I can't imagine life without him. He has become part of my morning routine, and his short legs remind me that my little legs can be beautiful too (but not as beautiful as his). He has not only taught me how to love myself for who I am, but everyday, he teaches me the importance of responsibility.

Goals

Here are some things that, if I'm elected, I will work towards achieving,

GOALS
Improve Communication

How can our class be a thriving community if we don't communicate. Communication is the key to success. Whether you're in a group of two, three, or five hundred people, you can't achieve anything if you don't communicate. If I'm elected, I will try my best to keep you informed and to listen to all of your feedback.

Increased Inclusivity

As the largest class, we have strength in numbers, but we are at our strongest when we work together. That's why I want to make all of your voices heard. Whether it is reaching me personally or filling out an anonymous google form, I'll make sure that your suggestions are considered.

Qualifications
CLIENTS
Homecoming Choreographer

Trying to choreograph and teach a dance to over forty of our peers has been one of the most wonderfully, challenging things I've ever done. It taught me how to work together with a large group of people to achieve a common goal. This experience also taught it it meant to truly be a leader. Leaders inspire others to lead next to them, not behind them. Alone, there isn't much we can do, but together, we can achieve anything.

Dance teacher aide

Last year, I spent my Sunday afternoons teaching 5-6 year olds how to dance. This taught me the importance of not only leading by instruction, but leading by example.

Valkyrie

Being a Valkyrie not only helped me understand the importance of team work, but it also taught how to accept critique and correction. I learned that the only way to continue to improve is to accept your mistakes and learn from them.
